9/11-The Twentieth Anniversary: We Will Never Forget

We Will Not Forget......

Terrorism is an ongoing inherent threat to America Nation. There are many definitions of terrorism, however, the one that I am referring to is the one that threatens the safety and security of this Nation, it’s citizens and our Constitutional rights, freedoms and liberties.

Terrorism can be defined as:

“the use or threat (of action) designed to influence the government or to intimidate the public or a section of the public, and the use or threat is made for the purposes of advancing a political, religious or ideological cause.”

It’s hard to imagine that it’s been 20 years since that dark day happened. I was riding the orange line Metro headed to Bowie State University for classes, but never made it there. It was approximately 8:45 a.m. The train operator announced something terrible had happened at the Twin Towers in Manhattan, New York. I was shocked and confused and scare all at the same time. I had just dropped my son off at the baby sitter and he was the only thing that I was thinking about in addition to getting off that Metro train. Little did we know that the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia would be hit that morning around 9:30 a.m..

I never made it to classes at Bowie State that day, however, I was able to safely, get off the train and head back home safely with my son, however the victims that boarded those four planes on the morning of September 11, 2001 would never see their families again.

In total, four places were hit that fateful morning: American Airlines Flight 11 flown in the North Tower of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan at 8:46 a.m., at 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 was flown into the World Trade Center South Tower, American Airlines Flight 77, from Dulles International in Virginia was hijacked over Ohio and at 9:37 a.m. it crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia. A fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93 was flown towards Washington, DC, however, the passengers tried to gain control of the aircraft from the hijackers, and subsequently the plane crashed in a field near Shanks Ville, Pennsylvania. The target was the White House or the United States Capitol.

Nearly 3,000 American’s lost their lives that morning. A classmate of mine’s from elementary school said that her father was on United Airlines Flight 93 plane headed to Washington, D.C. Even though I personally didn’t know any of the victims on those planes, the impact and tragedy will forever stay on my mind. Today we remember the victims, their families, and the first responders who saved and also perished due to the aftermath, we remember those who worked on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Pentagon as well as those who worked with the victims, the victims who never made it down the stairs of the Twin Towers. We will never forget the American soldiers who died in Afghanistan in the 20 year period since 9/11.

Let us never forget this American travesty by praying for the families of the victims, first responders and everyone affected. The threat of terrorism is stronger now more than ever today since it was 20 years ago. Now here we are in 2021, and The Taliban has reclaimed Afghanistan and America needs strong leadership, strategy and incessant prayer and unity. We must be sober, vigilant and encourage unity in a divided nation. The real threat of terrorism ends with collectivism, love and peace and cognizance of the inherent issues beneath the surface and behind the “masks” of those in the White House.

Praying for this day to never happen again & for the families of the victims & first responders,

Pamela
